Aashiqui....with...Mousiqui... I wanna talk about music now. The music in movies. When I was a kid during those Amitabh, Mithunda, Chunky, Govinda, Jeetendra movies in the 80s, the music was not as melodious as it was in 90s. Though still I like Bappi lahiri's numbers from 'Disco Dancer'. The disco genre is still one of my favourites. The romantic wave began with Nadeem-Shravan's 'Aashiqui'. It saw the birth of a new Music Composer, A playback singer - Kumar Sanu and a new wave that hit the bollywood, Then came Saajan, Deewana, Dil hai ki maanta nahi, and so many other hit music scores. Aashiqui is still one of the most revolutionary scores till date. 'Sochenge Tumhe pyaar' was so enchanting that I instantly fell in love with this song, the moment I heard it. Then cam Anu Malik, the struggler in the 80s became the hit music composer of mid and late 90s, with scores like 'Phir teri kahaani..', 'Baazigar', Vijaypath, Imtihan, Border, Refugee, Asoka all were pretty good. One of the most distinguished music from Nadeem-shravan was for 'Pardes'. It was so unlikely of them. Nevertheless a good score. Jatin-Lalit is one of my top-rated composers, especially for romantic, funny comic numbers. They made it too good in DDLJ, Raju Bangaya..., KHKN, JoJeeta.., Khamoshi, Fareb, Bada Din, Yes Boss, KKHH, Mohabbatein, till recently Haasil and Chalte Chalte. They are the followers of RDBurman in this era. Vishal-shekar who have composed for the yet to release, 'Jhankaar Beats' seem to have followed RDB's composition style. But my all time favourite Music composer is none other than A R Rahman. He is the master of the masters. He scores in all the areas, be it romantic scores or epic scores. From Roja to Rangeela he started, then came Bombay, Thiruda Thiruda, till recently Lagaan. All of them too good a scores. Shankar-ehsaan-loy were too good in Dil Chahta hai. The title track is just too good. These days I am hearing the same tunes from the MDs again and again. Be it chalte chalte or Main Prem ki diwaani hoon, all the tunes seem to have lost originality and look pale. Same tunes same instruments same voices. I am fedup of listening to the voice of Sunidhi Chauhan. The scream is there in every alternate number I listen to on the TV. There is no doubt that she is a talented singer. But the composition is so similer in almost all the numbers. Koi Mil gaya is not as good as KNPH by Rajesh Roshan, Hopes on Kuch na Kaho by Shankar-ehsaan-loy. Enough said. I am looking forward to an eventful music happening in the rest of the 2003 and 2004. Currently listening to 'Chali aayi' sung well by Chitra from MPKDH.
